The Easter eggs, nothing but the eggs!

Today was a family fun day. Three of my grandchildren visited and two of them 4 and 5 years old participated in our annual Easter egg hunt. The weather was rainy so the event was precluded from taking place outside this year. Before they arrived, I hid more than 70 plastic eggs under pillows, on chairs and various other places on the first floor. The colorful eggs were filled with Hershey kisses or Gummy Bears. Michael and Ariana were both given a basket and away they ran feverishly searching for the eggs filled with candy. They were so excited to locate the eggs and put them in their baskets. Shouts of, “I found another one!” filled the air as they both laughed and searched every place they could think of Ariana’s basket was slightly more full than Michael’s, but Michael kept searching and discovered that not all the eggs had been found. He just was dogged and wouldn’t stop searching long after Ariana had stopped. He found an additional 6 eggs and was thrilled to add them to his basket.

After that they dyed some hard boiled eggs and their Aunt Katie brought them some wooden Easter eggs to paint and a special decoration for Ariana’s bedroom. It was a special name sign that was cut from thin wood, painted and then attached to a lace background on an embroidery hoop. Ariana was excited to get such a special gift for her bedroom.

The rain held off long enough to grill chicken kabobs and peppers outdoors on the grill. My son, Tom, supervised the cooking of the kabobs and had given me the recipe. The kabobs were delicious! Everyone enjoyed chicken, roasted potatoes, and broccoli for dinner. Of course, we used paper plates for easy cleanup. My son-in-law , Dan, baked a chocolate bunny cake with Hershey rectangles, Junior mints and a marshmallow bow tie. My daughter, Katie, stopped at a favorite ice cream parlor and brought Red Velvet and Chai Tea ice cream. My older daughter, Marianne also purchased two half gallons of ice cream, Chocolate Truffle and my preferred flavor, Chocolate Chip. Everyone really enjoyed the desserts!

Both Michael and Ariana had a pillow fight with Uncle Mike that even the youngest granddaughter, Eliana, 16 months old joined in. She wants to do what her older cousins do and she is quite an excellent imitator. Then Uncle Mike treated Ariana to some Virtual Reality games that she really enjoyed. Michael enjoyed some computer time with his Dad, James, watching videos. Before long, the afternoon and evening were over and the cousins all bid a fond Bye, Bye until next weekend when we hope to get together for Easter Sunday.
