It has been a long nine months since I had an in person visit with two of my granddaughters, Nora, 5 years old and Hannah, 3 years old. Covid has gotten in the way of our regular get togethers. My oldest son, John and his wife, Georgette live in Ijamsville, MD about an hour and a half ride from my home in La Plata, MD. The last time I saw his family was for his birthday, last June, 2020. Since both John and Georgette were vaccinated and I had been vaccinated, it was time for Mom Mom to visit. I eagerly looked forward to the trip and was able to go from Tuesday to Friday the week before Easter.
When I first arrived at their home, Georgette was at work and the girls were at daycare, so John and I had lunch together and a nice talk. When the girls all came home, it was so nice to give them hugs and see how much they had grown and changed over the past 9 months. I brought them an Easter basket with some surprises and a Christmas present from Uncle Mike, shapes and pages to make pictures. We were all excited to see one another and read several books at night while I was there.
Since John was working from home, he would take breaks during the day and we would talk during lunch each day. We all watched a movie at night Raya, a Disney movie. The girls enjoyed it. We played some board games, ate dinner together and one night, I helped the girls take a bath with Mr. Squirty a bath toy that changes colors and squirts water in the tub. They really liked Mr. Squirty and laughed a lot about him.
Nora lost her first baby tooth at daycare on Tuesday and the tooth fairy visited her that night. He left a dollar and took her tooth with him. She was excited to tell me all about it the next morning, but my bedroom door was closed, so she waited until she got home from daycare to tell me. Nora is very good at crafts and I admired her suncatchers on the doors leading to the deck. Hannah is very imaginative and tells great stories.
It was a little chilly during my visit, so the girls and I didn’t get a chance to go outside. They have a beautiful, big yard and I am sure when the weather is a little better, they will spend a lot of time outdoors. The sisters are full of energy and play together a lot.
I am really looking forward to my next visit and seeing them all again. It was so nice spending time with them.
