Easter Rebirth!

Easter has always been a happy time for my family. There is hope in the spiritual sense, since Jesus has conquered death and opened up the gates of Heaven because of His obedience to God, His Father. Then there is the rebirth of the natural world in the beautiful panorama of colors that accompany the Spring. As the years fly by, I have come to appreciate both the spiritual and physical manifestations of this time of year.

Of course there is also the delight of the Easter Bunny’s visit, a highly anticipated event, especially this year for my grandchildren. Ari (8), Nora (8), Michael (7), Hannah (6), Cami (5), Ellie (4) and Tommy (2 3/4) all visited with there parents and decorated eggs, sugar cookies, and took part in our annual Easter egg hunt. Ari and Cami visited the Sunday before Easter and did all the Easter activities then, while the other grandchildren were here for Easter Sunday.

Easter Sunday morning, I attended 9 AM Mass with Katie, Dan and Ellie and Tommy. The children were very well behaved and afterwards took part in the annual Easter scavenger hunt on the lawn behind the church. Each family was assigned a particular colored egg they had to find. When they recovered all the eggs, each child was given a bag of treats. From there Katie and Dan took the children to Ellie’s school at another church and had a second Easter egg hunt with their cousin Michael, Marianne and James” son, who also attends St. Mary’s School in Bryantown.

It is always a fun time when the cousins get together to make some new memories and Easter was no exception. Their happiness is contagious and really adds a lot of life to the house. The weather was beautiful and they got to take a few walks in the neighborhood as well as do all the usual Easter activities together.

After a dinner of butter chicken, rice, Shepherd’s pie, broccoli and asparagus, the children played together some more before we put on a show for them to watch. Another Easter full of memories and youthful exuberance!

On Easter Monday, Marianne, Michael, Katie, Ellie, Tommy and I attended the Ice Cream with the Easter Bunny event at La Plata’s Town Hall. Each child was given a DQ cup of ice cream and could choose sprinkles, M&M’s and hot fudge for a topping. They were given various craft activities to do and posed with the Easter Bunny for pictures. This was quite a nice event for the children.
