Sunday, April 20, was a beautiful Easter Day! The weather was perfect for attending church and the annual scavenger hunt after Mass. Michael and I attended to watch Ellie and Tommy search the lawn behind St. Ignatius Church to find clues and locate eggs to earn a treat bag of candy. Katie and Dan were proud of how well their children did finding the hidden eggs.
I was excited that all my “chicks” were coming with their families to celebrate Easter together. Five of the seven grandchildren were able to attend and participate in our annual Easter egg hunt, dye some eggs, play a little baseball out back and have some fun in the basement. The cousins enjoy each other’s company when they are able to get together.
Unfortunately, we have “outgrown” the tables in the dining room, and had to institute a “grandkids” table in the kitchen. This year I had the pleasure of sitting with the cousins as they ate in the kitchen allowing their Mom’s and Dad’s to catch up with one another in the dining room. It was wonderful hearing the cousins exchange stories about what the Easter Bunny brought them, while hearing some of the conversations from the dining room. Of course, the children finished first and were eager to get on to their favorite main course, dessert! They couldn’t understand why it took the grownups so long to eat and finish their conversations.
Besides enjoying some of the candy they found during the Easter egg hunt, the children enjoyed the traditional Easter Bunny cake and some ice cream. There were also some Peep Kiss cookies, basically a sugar cookie with colored sugar and a Hershey kiss in the middle. I think everyone left for home full and happy!
The next morning, I was able to go with Michael, Ellie and Tommy to Town Hall for ice cream with the Easter Bunny. They enjoyed seeing some friends, Cadence and Melody and their Mom, Beth there. They were nice enough to save them a spot at their table. They also were given some crafts to bring home.
