Easter Eggstravaganza

This Easter Michael and I were able to attend 9 AM Mass at St. Ignatius Chapel Point Church to join my daughter, Katie, her husband Dan, and their children, Ellie, Tommy and Noelle. Tommy sat with us in the back while the rest of his family sat in the first row. Church was really crowded because of the special holyday.

After the Mass, we joined everyone out on the back lawn of the church for the traditional scavenger hunt. The children were given a particular Easter egg color to collect and opened them to reveal a clue as to where the next egg could be found. Ellie and Tommy did a great job and found all the green eggs they had been assigned. Their reward for their efforts was a bag of candy each that they were given in the church hall.

I had started making our Easter dinner the night before. The main course was lemon chicken, an old recipe, but one the children really liked. The rest of my adult children and grandchildren arrived in the afternoon. We painted Easter eggs in a revolving machine with markers and dyed them in different colors also applying some glue and glitter to them. The grandchildren, Ari, Cami, Nora, Hannah, Michael, Ellie and Tommy did a great job decorating the eggs.

Uncle Steve wanted to hide the golden egg for the Easter egg hunt and he found a very interesting spot to place it this year. His height definitely helped him as he placed the egg in the globe of the overhead light near the front door. While the children waited in the basement the adults hid the eggs on the first floor in very good spaces. It was such fun seeing the grandchildren run up the basement steps and locate over 100 eggs in a matter of minutes. Of course, they were all thrilled with the hunt.

The adults sat at the two tables in the dining room, while the children sat in the kitchen to enjoy their dinners. We had salad, brought by Tom and Marissa and chicken wings, bread and celery brought by Marianne and James, and delicious chocolate banana bread brought by Elisabeth and Stephen. Our main course was mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, asparagus, lemon chicken and Hawaiian rolls. Everyone seemed to enjoy the meal as well as the ongoing conversations. I love to see and listen to all the siblings interact.

The grandchildren must have played in the basement together off and on for at least 3 hours during the day. They always have a great time getting together with their cousins and their joy is contagious. Meanwhile the adult brothers and sisters enjoyed their conversations and catching up with one another.

A little while after dinner, we had bunny cake and ice cream for dessert. Once again a holiday brought the family together and I think everyone enjoyed their visit.
