Celebrating Three Special Men

The month of October is significant in our family because it is the birth month of two of my sons, Tom and Michael, and my son-in-law, Dan. Since the dates are within days of one another, Tom the 9th, Dan the 10th and Michael the 14th, we have a grand birthday celebration. Yesterday, Sunday, October 9th, the family got together to watch a little football and honor the birthday men. We were happy that the Eagles won their 5th consecutive game!! More importantly, it was just fun to have most of the family visit. John and Georgette and their children Nora and Hannah were unable to attend because of sickness. We really missed them being here.

The cousins, Ari, Michael, Ellie and Tommy enjoyed each other’s company as they played with toys, colored, raced around the house, spent some time outside and watched a movie Over the Moon on the Disney channel with Uncle Mike. Ari and Ellie like coloring oversized pages from a coloring book and we have an art gallery on the walls in the hallway. Cousin Michael is the most energetic cousin and always has fun when he visits. Tommy the youngest grandchild is working on his language skills and can now say Boo when asked what a ghost says and Roar when asked what a dinosaur says.

For dinner we had a new entree Chicken Spaghetti and a familiar one, Shepherd’s pie. There was also Caesar salad, asparagus, and garlic bread as sides. Since there were thirteen family members in attendance, not everyone had a seat at the kitchen table. We have outgrown the kitchen table for special parties. Of course, Tommy, 16 months, is guaranteed a seat at the highchair!

Later everyone joined in to sing Happy Birthday. We had Aunt Ilene’s famous pound cake and for the first time a German chocolate cake for dessert. Ari helped her dad, Tom, blow out his candles and Ellie helped her dad, Dan, blow out his. Everyone helped themselves to a scoop of their favorite ice cream. It was a very memorable day, just as every family celebration is! Looking forward to the next round of birthdays in November, three granddaughters’ birthdays are the 14th, 16th, and 18th. So many reasons to be thankful!
