A Joyful Celebration

Recently I had the honor of attending a reenactment of wedding vows between my son, Tom, and his beautiful bride, Marissa. This took place on January 16th, 2023 at Marissa’s townhome in Alexandria, Virginia. My granddaughter, Tom’s daughter, Ari was present as was Marissa’s daughter, Camilla and both girls took part in the ceremony. They looked so pretty in their matching white dresses and shoes. Marissa’s parents Mary and Ramon were visiting and it was a pleasure to meet them.

Marissa and Tom addressed their parents thanking them for all their love and support over the years. Then the parents were invited to make a few comments about our relationship with our adult child and our hopes for their future as a newly married couple. It was a very touching observance of love. Finally Marissa and Tom repeated the vows they had made a week earlier at the courthouse and their daughters enthusiastically spoke their parts with Camilla stating, “You may now kiss the bride.”

Afterwards, we were treated to a delicious dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steak House. Our conversations were very pleasant, the girls age 7 and 4 were very well behaved, and it was a joy to celebrate a new beginning.

On the way home, I reflected on the past and felt very optimistic about Tom and Marissa’s future as husband and wife. They are a beautiful couple with beautiful daughters, both very committed to family and their very successful jobs. I wish them continued joy as they begin their new life together.
