Easter Joy!

There is nothing quite as special as Easter Sunday. Not only did Jesus rise from the dead, assuring us salvation if we follow His will, but nature shows the skill of God’s creation in all its’ beauty. It is a time for families to gather and celebrate all the good gifts we have been given. To me this time is magical especially when my adult children and grandchildren come to visit. This year four of my adult children were able to come for the celebration and were accompanied by five children ranging in age from 7 to 22 months old.

The first adventure for the children was the annual Easter egg hunt which is held indoors. My grandson, Michael, had helped me fill up some 75 eggs with candies for this contest. The children raced around the first floor baskets in hand to scoop up all the colored plastic eggs they could find. Everyone was happy with the number of eggs they found and even after they thought they were finished, extra eggs were spotted and put into their baskets.

Next up was decorating Easter eggs with a multitude of dyes, stickers and by using the Egg Mazing machine, stripes were drawn on the eggs as they rotated in the machine and the children used different color markers.

Then each child was given a chicken coop to decorate with icing, jellybeans, peeps, flowers and candy. In this activity they used their creativity to design what they thought was the best chicken coop.

Just before dinner, the cotton “snowballs” were found, located behind a loveseat in the family room, and Uncle Mike became the grandkids favorite target. About thirty “snowball” went flying around the family room, much to the delight of the children.

For the first time for Easter we ordered takeout from the Bollywood Restaurant in La Plata, since my adult children are big fans of that food. It was delicious as usual and cleanup was simple as we had colorful Easter paper plates.

Finally we had a four layer cake, with a surprise inside. When my oldest granddaughter, Ari, cut the cake the surprise tumbled out, pastel M&M and sprinkles. Everyone enjoyed a slice of cake.
