This year, Halloween, was a very blustery night. The winds however were not enough to deter the trick or treaters in our neighborhood. In fact, there were considerably more children going door to door than last year. Some of the visitors were teenagers and the costumes were very varied and interesting. I saw superheroes, princesses, dinosaurs, Pokemon and Minecraft characters, astronauts, ghosts and countless other costumes. All the children were very happy and grateful for the candy they were collecting.
For the past several years, my three local grandchildren, Michael,9, Ellie, almost 6, and Tommy,4, come here to celebrate Halloween. The cousins enjoy one another’s company and after a dinner of Ledo’s pizza they head out with their parents and Uncle Mike to collect their bounty. Michael wore his Cubs baseball shirt for his costume, Ellie wore a homemade Charizard costume, and Tommy wore a skeleton costume this year. We took a few pictures outside the house and Uncle Mike took some photos as they went from home to home.
This year, my daughter Marianne dressed up her beagle, Dexter as Beetlejuice and he laid on the front porch to keep me company as I passed out the candy and some Pokemon cards to the trick or treaters. A lot of them said how cute he was and a few asked if they could pet him.
After the two hour sojourn, Michael, Ellie and Tommy returned to relax and count the candy they had collected. They empty their bags on the family room rug and admire the variety of candy they received, stating their favorite types. James, Michael’s dad, made a delicious chocolate cake this year for dessert. Needless to say, we all enjoyed another fun Halloween this year.
